Gen AI is complex and constantly evolving. Organizations want to know how it works, but they also want to know how it could work for them. We at DIGITAL created our Gen AI Adoption Framework to help organizations and their leaders along the path to understanding and adopting AI. This framework cuts through this uncertainty, offering clear guidance on moving from curiosity about Gen AI to effectively implementing it across all teams in an organization. The framework also aims to build public trust in AI by promoting transparency, accountability, and a balance between innovation and ethical considerations.
How We Built This Framework
This framework is co-designed with organizations that were at different stages of adopting Gen AI. Based on our research and what we heard from managers, we created a five-stage readiness scale called the Gen AI Adoption Framework (below).
In Stage 1, the Discover stage of the framework, managers are curious about what Gen AI is but don’t yet have a strategy about how to adopt it in the workplace. At the other end of the spectrum is Stage 5, the Evaluate stage, where managers are fully ready to adopt Gen AI and want to know how they can measure its success. In collaboration with the managers at the organizations we contacted, we identified and called out specific actions managers can take to effectively adopt and use Gen AI, regardless of which stage they are at in the framework.
Most managers we spoke with were at Stage 2: Define, where they were still unsure of the benefits of Gen AI and were looking to find potential uses for it within their organization, so we created a Gen AI Use Case Tool to help them with this specific challenge.
What You Can Do With These Tools
For the Gen AI Adoption Framework:
Identify Current Stage: Assess where your team stands in the 5-stage model in terms of the maturity of adopting Gen AI.
Draft an Action Plan: Based on the supporting table of information provided in the framework, create a list of actions your team can take to advance to the next stage.
Assign Responsibilities: Identify which team members are best suited to undertake the actions required to progress in your AI adoption journey
For the Gen AI Use Case Tool (specifically for Teams at Stage 2):
Identify Relevant Use Cases: Use the tool to identify potential use cases for integrating Gen AI within your organization based on your specific needs and capabilities.
Evaluate Impact vs. Effort: Assess the potential impact and effort required for implementing each identified use case to make prioritization decisions.
Customize Your Use Case: Learn how to tailor use cases to best suit the requirements of your team by adjusting the scope, objectives, and resources.
